The first human-made object to take to the air was the kite, with the first ones probably flown in China in the 5th century BCE for military communication or to test wind speeds in the 15th, Leonardo DaVinci the Italian artist sketched some designs for flying machines, which he based on his studies of birds. For the next 4 centuries inventors continued to see their sights on the skies but it was not until the Wright Brothers historic flight that true aviation history began.
